I’ve been interested in the way identities are constructed in new mediums, and how the challenge of presenting oneself in a virtual context interplays with our own personal doubts.
Because Identities are not static, not even to one self: the construction of our own self image appears often to me as a puzzle, where we have some pieces we inherited, some we created, and some that were created by events that happened to us. And what these (not so) new platforms create is the challenge of presenting ourselves as a cohesive, coherent union of all these parts. So, the task falls upon us to solve the puzzle and present ourselves as an elegantly pieced together individual, as an object to be consumed online.
The context of production of this experience is relevant as well, since it was created in early 2021, still on lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic: a period of heightened virtual socialization where I had a lot of time to ponder the question of my virtual persona (and play around with SparkAR)
